YULETIDE

December is always a busy month with Christmas related activities – Christmas parties, Christmas goodies, tree decorating, Christmas carols. In the realm of 131 we started the Christmas season with a house party at Tabler Binu’s place.
Though the party was planned without much notice, thanks to Reshma everything was perfect and everybody turned up in Santa’s colors. The evening started literally with a bang as firecrackers were burst with the host taking the lead to the delight of the twinklers.

The meeting commenced after which everybody was asked to assemble for the seargents act which turned out to be a very entertaining and brilliant short movie directed by our talented duo Preeti and Jayanth and had Tablers Kurian, Mathu and Chacko in lead roles.

After the business meet, we had the traditional Carol singing lead by the talented Marthomites joined by the newly formed Kodungalloor Choir Group!!. Nonstop supply of short eats with barbeque and whole range of food was flowing to celebrate the Christmas night.

131ers can never have enough of a good thing and so after a couple of days we found ourselves at Sq. Leg Bechu’s place for a wonderful home-cooked Xmas Feast. There is a special charm and warmth in a home cooked Christmas Dinner with wonderful hosts and old friends as was evident with the attendance of almost the entire table as well as a large number of square legs.

The meeting was attended by 14 Past Chairmen. The meeting was concluded with the Christmas message by Tr. GG. He started by testing the audience with Christmas and other related trivia. Though the questions were tough Tabler John Simon fielded the questions like a champ. GG wisely realizing that there was no point while John was around moved on to a charming Xmas message ending with the now famous ‘WE WISH U A MERRY XMAS’.

A round of Tambola, followed by carol singing and our choir groups assembled yet again and the old songs were sung with renewed spirits. The fun in the 131 carols is the banter that goes on between the songs which means that we laugh almost as much as we sing.

After the exhaustive singing it was turn of the empty stomachs to be filled. What more with homemade food by Meenu reminiscing about Christmas past and looking forward to all that is to come.
